Speed Up Weight Loss, By Eating More of These Foods

study which was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has reported that eating just one portion of pulses per day, helps weight loss by making you feel fuller and also helps reduce “bad” cholesterol.

The research was lead by author Dr Russel De Souza and conducted with the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. The Canadian researchers have reported that eating pulses (beans, lentils, chickpeas and peas) may speed-up weight loss.
During the study, almost 1000 men and women participants, lost 0.75 lbs over six weeks by adding pulses into their regular diets. The participants did not make other changes to their diet or efforts to lose weight. The “bad cholesterol” levels were also reduced by at least 5%, in turn lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease.

What Makes Pulses Effective for Weight Loss?

Pulses are full of protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals. These make them effective in facilitating weight loss and reducing cholesterol when eaten regularly. Also, pulses have a “low glycemic index”, which means they break down slowly in the digestive tract.

Expert dietitian have proven that the recent study supports the notion that foods such as lentils, beans, chickpeas and dry peas may help in reducing the body fat and may contribute to weight loss, even if the calories were not restricted.
Pulses do seem to help people feel fuller, much faster and the fiber these foods contain “may help reduce the absorption of fat”.
